9News reports on Speaker Romanoff's trip to China

9News reported on Speaker Andrew Romanoff's press conference about his upcoming visit to China:
Romanoff led the push during the 2007 legislative session to divest Colorado's public pension funds from any companies doing business with the Sudanese government. Hundreds of thousands of Sudanese citizens in the Darfur region have been killed by their own government and millions of others have been displaced. President Bush has called the situation "a genocide" and other world leaders have condemned the Sudanese government for atrocities against its own people.
[...]
"This is the central moral crisis of our time," said Romanoff. "Sudan has a friend in China. No country has done more to support the Sudanese regime than the People's Republic of China. No country has offered more diplomatic support. No country has done more to provide weaponry that fuels the genocide. No country has done more to insulate Sudan from economic pressures and human rights accountability."
[...]
"We don't want the 2008 games to be known as the Genocide Olympics," Romanoff said at a news conference with half a dozen Sudanese refugees by his side. "The sad truth is unless China brings the Olympic dream to Darfur, we will be forced to bring Darfur to the Olympic Games."
We'll keep you updated on Speaker Romanoff's trip as details become available.
